This campout will be a truly unique experience for Troop 442! Scouts will travel to New Orleans for a 4-day, 3-night adventure while camping at St. Bernard State Park, only a few miles from the French Quarter. During this trip, Scouts will dive into nearly two centuries of American history and culture, all in one city. At the National WWII Museum, Scouts will discover New Orleans's surprising role in winning the war—home to the shipyard where the Higgins boats that stormed the beaches of Normandy were built. At Chalmette Battlefield, a National Park Ranger will walk Scouts across the very ground where American forces defended New Orleans in the decisive War of 1812 battle that made Andrew Jackson a national hero. And in the French Quarter, Scouts will experience the culture that gave America jazz—brunch at the historic Court of Two Sisters, our very own Second Line parade with a live brass band and police escort, and a walk through streets that witnessed the Louisiana Purchase—capped off with sweet beignets and coffee at Café du Monde.
Along the way, Scouts will have the chance to start or make real progress on up to three merit badges—American Heritage, American Cultures, and Citizenship in the Nation (Eagle Required)—each one tied directly to the history we'll be walking through. Scouts will also earn two hours toward a National Park Service Scout Ranger Program Certificate or Badge.
This camp is limited to 25 participants. Sign up early so you don't miss out!
This camp will be performed in parallel with Troop 140.

For Spring Break 2027, Troop 442 will be running a Backpacking trip at the beautiful Lost Maples State Park. This camp will not be for the faint of heart, with limited to non-existent bathroom access and daily hikes of 4–6 hours with 400+ feet of elevation gain. Scouts attending this camp will need approved backpacking gear (which parents may need to purchase) and must be physically capable of handling the demands of the trek. Beginning in 2027, we will discuss the specific gear, packing, and preparation required for the trip. Along the way, Scouts will filter drinking / cooking water from natural springs (satisfying First Class requirements) and have plenty of opportunities for trail cooking (satisfying Cooking / Camping MB). Any Scout considering future high-adventure treks such as Philmont or Northern Tier should strongly consider signing up for this camp.
